Uchtman 1024x576 Fredericksburg VA Doula: Childbirth Preparation
Sweet baby boy shortly after delivery

Childbirth Preparation

As you know, we are in this new period of time with social distancing. And some hospitals have different requirements for support people, and then we throw in the unknowns of delivery. One of the things I have realized is that the classes on childbirth preparation aren’t as easily accessible at the moment. I was contacted this week by someone who wanted to know if I offered in-person childbirth preparation. She was hopeful that I could help her and her husband get ready. This is something I have done in the past, but not recently to be honest. I decided to resurrect the childbirth class I created a few years ago!

So this week I am working towards updating my information and sprucing up all my handouts. In many ways, I have never stopped doing childbirth preparation. It’s typically information that always gets covered in some way during my time with doula clients. I guess it has never really been far from my mind as I cover most, if not all of these things, at some point with all the clients I have. It’s definitely something I enjoy, the whole preparation and teaching side of doula work. Being able to help get new parents ready to birth and bring home their new baby is always a wonderful thing to be involved in.

Childbirth preparation looks a lot like anything else you would expect with babies. Lots of information, including a reading list of some books, birth plan examples, and the stages of labor; are just a few things we go over together. I utilize hands-on demonstrations of position changes, massage and acupressure tips your support person can use, and plenty of handouts for you to utilize later on.
